Why is our blood red? Well, that's because of the iron in your blood. When iron is oxidized that is when you see the red pigment. The more iron you have in your blood, the more oxygen your red blood cells can carry, the more iron and oxygen in your blood the redder your blood becomes. Iron-deficiency anemia is a serious problem in many countries. It can lead to fatigue, suppressed immune function, and much more. Women need 30% more iron than men do because of menstruation. Eating veggies for iron is ok, but not best. This is because of the oxylates and phytates within some veggies that prevent the iron from being absorbed. Try using cast iron cookware. It is safe and a great way to incorporate iron in all of your meals you cook at home.
